In addition to writing lessons, students will be writing throughout their days. Journaling will be done in my classroom in all subjects. Journaling will be checked weekly. Students will be expected to either complete it on line or in their journal folders. It will be a place for them to write their explanations, ask questions, point out observations or realizations. They need to use complete sentences and thoroughly explain their ideas. They will be summarizing what they have learned through the day.
Since last year was a narrative.. I wouldn't be surprised if they go with an expository this year. Students need to be writing all the time and I am thinking my students will be required to use their weekly vocabulary in their writing. Essays will be topic based depending on the science/social studies and reading lessons we are working on for the week. I will be beginning with lots of modeling in all areas of writing.
